How to Help

How Our Center Exists

After 10 years as a “virtual” center, our dream of a home came true in 2007. Our program is growing, and we are welcoming new students every week. Although we are affiliated with the FPMT organization, we are still locally-supported. The center does not receive any funding from the International Office. OCBC (or GGBC) exists entirely through the kindness of our teachers, and the generosity of our students.

The Dharma Is Free, The Center Is Not

Membership

We depend greatly on members who have pledged monthly contributions. For more information, please see our Membership Program page.

Donations

The events at the center are offered on a donation basis. Our philosophy for donations is founded on the Generosity Model, ensuring that our programs are accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Your generous donations are crucial to the operation of our Dharma center.

To assist you in determining an appropriate donation amount to support our programs, we provide suggested donation levels on the program registration page. If you prefer to donate an amount other than the suggested levels, please choose the Donate what you can option and enter any amount (from $0 upwards) in the Donation field during registration.

Whether you plan to attend in person or online, we recommend pre-registering in advance. This helps us with logistics and allows us to provide you with timely communication about the event.

Volunteering

To progress along the Dharma path requires tremendous purification and building merit (positive force). How to do this? One very impactful way to benefit yourself and others is to participate at a Dharma center and offer what you can and when you can.

Volunteers are at the heart of Ocean of Compassion; our center is entirely run by volunteers. We request that volunteers commit to a 6-month volunteering period if possible. Hours required vary depending on the roles, for example, 1–2 hours per week, 2–3 hours per month, or per event.

Please visit our Volunteering page regarding current volunteering needs. For interest or inquiry, please contact volunteer@oceanofcompassion.org.
