In the auspicious period of Monlam Losar (where the karmic
results of positive actions are exponentially multiplied),
OCBC will be hosting a fundraising sit-a-thon and
recite-a-thon.
Generate vast merit at this special time by silently
reciting sutras or mantras, and/or sitting in meditation
while supporting OCBC to fundraise.

How It Works
- Decide on the number of hours you will sit in meditation and/or recite mantras or sutras (you can do both meditation and recitations).
- Choose your favorite meditation object/topic and sutras and/or mantras to recite (bring your own texts or use those at the center).
- Sit all in one go or break up your hours into chunks.
- Collect pledges/sponsorships from your family, friends, and contacts for your chosen number of hours. You may use the sponsorship request template below as an inspiration.
- Donate your collected funds on OCBC's Losar Fundraiser Page.
- Your donors will pledge $25 or more per hour.
- Online Zoom participants can choose to keep their cameras on to feel part of the in-person sitting group.
Benefits
This dharma community event offers a wonderful opportunity to:
- Dedicate time to sit and hone your meditation practice and skills while earning merit.
- Recite mantras or sutras to purify your mind and earn merit.
- Fundraise for OCBC and accumulate generosity merit by ensuring the Dharma continues to be made available.

Sponsorship Request Template
You may use the following template to create your own sponsorship request letter:
I hope this message finds you in good spirits. I am reaching out to share some exciting news and request your support for a meaningful cause.
Ocean of Compassion Buddhist Center in Campbell, CA is organizing a Sit-a-Thon & Recite-a-Thon fundraiser to prepare for the arrival of their new resident teacher, Geshe Legtsok.
He is an American monk who has been training in India for the equivalent of a PhD in Buddhist Philosophy, and is passionate about deepening the community’s understanding of both Buddhist and secular teachings. His arrival promises to be a transformative experience.
To support this noble endeavor, I have committed to participating in a Sit-a-Thon. The pledge amount is $25 per hour, and I have decided to dedicate hours to this cause. You can sponsor me for the full time or a fraction of the time I plan to practice. Whatever amount you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Your sponsorship would mean the world to me and would greatly contribute to this effort.
You can send your sponsorship to me or donate here.
Your contribution will directly support: continued Buddhist and secular/community teaching programs, resources for our growing community, support for our teacher’s ongoing work.
Thank you for considering this request. Your support and kindness truly make a difference.
Warmest regards,
