Our Spiritual Director, Lama Zopa Rinpoche was born in 1946,
within sight of the cave of the Lawudo Lama. Kunzang Yeshe,
was a married Ngakpa lama with a son and a daughter, while
searching for a suitable place to meditate in solitude, he
discovered a beautiful stone cave marked with various
auspicious signs. Just such a cave, a greatly blessed place
of holy beings called the Cave of Blissful Attainments, was
mentioned in a very secret text of Padmasambhava, and after
clearing out this cave, he declared that it was that very
self-created cave, given to him by Padmasambhava himself.
From the time he was able to crawl, Lama Zopa Rinpoche tried
to climb the steep path leading from his home to the
cave. When old enough to speak, he declared that the cave
was his. When publicly examined at four years of age, Zopa
Rinpoche repeatedly identified possessions of the Lawudo
Lama, and was formally declared the rightful incarnation of
the Lama Kunsang Yeshe.
Please join us for a Virtual Pilgrimage from Kathmandu to
Lawudo with Venerable Robina Courtin, and a talk about
Padmasambhava, considered by some as an emanation of
Amithaba, and a description of Lama Zopa Rinpoche's plans
reveal Lawudo as the Guru Rinpoche Pure Land that it has
always been.
Ordained since the late 1970s, Venerable Robina Courtin
has worked full time since then for her gurus Lama Thubten
Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche. Over the years, she has
served as editorial director of Wisdom Publications,
editor of Mandala Magazine, executive director of
Liberation Prison Project, and as a touring teacher of
Buddhism.
Her life and work with prisoners have been featured in the
documentary films Chasing Buddha
and Key to Freedom.
Venerable Robina leads pilgrimages to the
Buddhist Holy Sites in Nepal and India.
Based in Sydney, Australia, Kristina Mah has worked on the Lawudo Trek since meeting Ven. Robina in early 2016. The Lawudo Trek began from the idea of wishing to go to Rinpoche’s cave with a group of open-minded and inspired people and raise money for Lawudo Gompa, its carers and community.
Lawudo Trek
Ven. Robina Courtin and Kristina Mah have led several treks to Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s cave in the Himalayas, which raise money for Lawudo, in particular to fulfill Rinpoche’s vision to build a replica of Guru Rinpoche’s Pure Land.
