This devotional poem written in the fourteenth century by
Lama Tsongkhapa focuses particularly on the practices of the
initial scope practitioner: precious human life,
impermanence, death, and karma.
Venerable Tenzin Namjong
will give a commentary based on this text with an emphasis
on how we can incorporate the dharma into our daily lives.
Je Tsongkhapa (1357 – 1419) is among the most influential
figures in Tibetan Buddhism. The founder of the Gelug
tradition, he is most renowned for the Lamrim Chenmo (Great
Treatise on the Stages of Enlightenment) and the Ngamrim
Chenmo (Great Treatise on the Secret Mantra).
Born and raised in Hawaii, Venerable Tenzin Namjong
studied and trained in Zen and Theravada traditions before
embracing the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, due mainly to
the kindness of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Lama Zopa
Rinpoche.
He holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Princeton University
and is now in the 14th year of the Geshe study program at
Sera Je Monastery
in Bylakuppe, India. He is a registered
teacher with the FPMT and teaches regularly at the FPMT
centers in India.
