Discovering Buddhism, Module 12
Wisdom of Emptiness
Tuesdays, 7:00pm – 9:00pm
January 7 – February 25, 2020
(8 classes)
The Buddha explained how all of our problems are rooted in
not understanding how things actually exist. In this class
we will explore not only how things exist, but also how we
actually exist. Once we are able to realize the truth about
existence we will end our problems forever. The core of
this understanding is — emptiness. This class includes what
emptiness means, how to meditate on it and how we actually
do exist. The process of developing the understanding of
this is eye-opening and leads us to lasting happiness.
Students must have taken at least three previous Discovering
Buddhism modules to attend these classes, or make a request
for an exemption that will need to be approved by the
teacher.
Having a long-held interest in the mind's capacity for
transformation, Ven. Gyalten Palmo left home to spend 4½
months in India with an enlightened master in the late
1970's. Ven. Palmo started studying Tibetan Buddhism at the
turn of the century. She has studied closely under Ribur
Rinpoche, Choden Rinpoche, Geshe Ngawang Dakpa and Lama Zopa
Rinpoche. She went on to complete the Foundation for the
Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition's (FPMT) Basic
Program coursework and retreats. In 2012, she was ordained
by Choden Rinpoche at Sera Jey Monastic University in India.
As an FPMT-registered teacher, she has been teaching
Discovering Buddhism regularly at Tse Chen Ling Center in
San Francisco since 2013. Ven. Palmo loves studying and
sharing the Dharma with others.
