His Eminence the 7th Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche was born
in McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala, in 1985. In 1987, His Holiness the 14th
Dalai Lama recognized him as the reincarnation of His Holiness the 6th
Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche (1903 – 1983), who was the principal
tutor of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
His Holiness refers to him as “my Root Guru”.
H.E. the 7th Ling Rinpoche has completed all five Geshe
Studies subjects (Logic, Perfection of Wisdom, Middle Way,
Higher Knowledge, and Monastic Discipline) and was awarded
His Geshe Degree from Drepung Loseling Monastic University
in South India, in November 2016. H.E. 7th Ling Rinpoche has
also recently completed a year of further studies at Gyuto
Tantric College in Dharamsala. His Holiness the Dalai Lama
continues to closely guide Him.
Starting in 2004 he has also participated in the Mind and
Life Institute dialogues held in India between His Holiness
the Dalai Lama and scientists on a variety of topics, such
physics, neuroplasticity and destructive emotions. In March
2017, H.E. Ling Rinpoche joined His Holiness the Dalai Lama
and other Buddhist leaders at a three-day International
Buddhist Conference on "The Relevance of Buddhism in the
21st Century"

Finding Well-Being and Happiness
The FPMT Centers of the Bay Area are honored to welcome His
Eminence, the 7th Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche, to the Bay
Area on this auspicious visit to the West Coast. His Eminence
is the recognized reincarnation of the 6th Ling Rinpoche,
senior tutor to His Holiness to the Dalai Lama who refers to
him as “my Root Guru”. We are overjoyed that His Eminence has
accepted our invitation to hold a public talk for the benefit
of the Bay Area communities.
In this public talk, “Finding Well-Being and Happiness,” His
Eminence Ling Rinpoche will talk about the need for
cultivating inner well-being and happiness, and methods to
achieve these states. We will explore how our untamed minds
can be transformed to bring about a cessation of suffering and
cultivate the happiness we seek.
In a talk given in Australia in March 2018, His Eminence
observed: “When I meet people around the world, they express a
lot of difficulties — health-related, emotional and work
challenges. Despite our material progress, they face so many
problems — greater stress and unhappiness. It proves that
these internal problems can’t be solved through materialistic
means.”
It is a deep privilege for the FPMT Centers of the Bay Area to
be hosting this event.
We look forward to seeing you.
The 3 Principal Aspects of the Path
The profound text by Je Tsongkhapa explains that renunciation, bodhichitta and a correct view of emptiness are the three pathways of mind essential for reaching enlightenment through either the sutra and tantra vehicles of practice.
Chenrezig Initiation (Jenang)
Chenrezig or in Sanskrit, Avalokiteshvara, is the Bodhisattva
of Universal Compassion embodying the great compassion of all
the Buddhas. Receiving the initiation means the seed of
compassion is planted in the mind of the participants. In
turn, this can then be nurtured through ongoing practice
until one's quality of compassion is perfected.
Prerequisites for the initiation:
To attend the initiations, students need to be Buddhist
(i.e. they should have faith in the Three Jewels) and also have
faith in the teachings and Chenrezig.
The initiation cannot be attended as a "blessing". Rinpoche
will not give commitments.
One final consideration is for students to understand the
significance and implications of a Guru/Disciple relationship
in relation to tantric initiations and practice.
Kriya Tantra initiation requires refraining from black foods
that day, before the initiation. Black foods include
meat, fish, eggs, onion, garlic, radishes.
