Presenting the Path
Tuesdays, 7:00pm – 9:00pm
May 1 – June 12, 2018
(7 classes)
Practice Day: Saturday, June 16
11:00am – 3:30pm
This series presents an overview to a systematic path to
full awakening, or enlightenment. Basically, it summarizes
the entire teachings of the Buddha.
We will:
- look at the life of the historical Buddha
- discuss the three main components to achieving enlightenment—renunciation, the wish to benefit others, and the right view of emptiness
- look at the progressive, step-like structure of teachings called the Lam Rim
- examine where you fit at your present stage of spiritual development, what you need to do next
If you have ever wondered about Buddhism this can give you an understanding.
Having a long-held interest in the mind's capacity for
transformation, Ven. Gyalten Palmo left home to spend 4½
months in India with an enlightened master in the late
1970's. Ven. Palmo started studying Tibetan Buddhism at the
turn of the century. She has studied closely under Ribur
Rinpoche, Choden Rinpoche, Geshe Ngawang Dakpa and Lama Zopa
Rinpoche. She went on to complete the Foundation for the
Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition's (FPMT) Basic
Program coursework and retreats. In 2012, she was ordained
by Choden Rinpoche at Sera Jey Monastic University in India.
As an FPMT-registered teacher, she has been teaching
Discovering Buddhism regularly at Tse Chen Ling Center in
San Francisco since 2013. Ven. Palmo loves studying and
sharing the Dharma with others.
