Medicine Buddha PujaKyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche advises us to do this puja monthly on the full moon day. It is considered particularly powerful for people who are sick or have recently died, and for bringing both temporal success and the ultimate success of enlightenment. The practice of Medicine Buddha not only helps the sick and the dying, but also helps remove obstacles in our lives. The Medicine Buddha puja purifies and heals on all levels: physical, mental, spiritual, and environmental.
The Medicine Buddha is described as having entered into a state of samadhi called "Eliminating All the Suffering and Afflictions of Sentient Beings." Within this samadhi, he spoke the Medicine Buddha dharani. The Seven Medicine Buddhas and Shakyamuni Buddha represent the ultimate sources of healing. They vowed to actualize their prayers in degenerate times. In the center sits the main Medicine Buddha. Above is Shakyamuni Buddha. They are surrounded by the six other Medicine Buddhas. Praise to these buddhas increases the strength of medicinal therapies, the release of physical and mental suffering and closes the door to rebirth in the lower realms. The text most often used for this puja is The Wish -Fulfilling Jewel composed by Panchen Losang Chokyi Gyaltsen, available from the FPMT |
